Description

POSTBIOLIFT™

Skin microbiota diversity changes with age: certain beneficial lactic acid bacteria are reduced; some even disappear from mature skin. BASF researchers now found out that Lactobacillus crispatus is decreasing on certain skin areas, and cannot even be detected in the wrinkle hollow of older persons anymore. Unlike other biotics existing on the cosmetic market, Postbiolift is the first to use this “youth bacterium” that is found naturally on the skin. Postbiolift contains the fermentation supernatant of Lactobacillus crispatus, containing its secreted metabolites and contributing to more elastic skin, to a smoother appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, and to an even complexion.

Complementing existing research that indicates skin microbiota diversity changes with age, BASF has conducted a new study on the difference in the facial microbiome composition of wrinkled and non-wrinkled skin. The research team found that lactic acid bacteria, including Lactobacilli, noticeably decrease in mature, wrinkled skin. A particular species, Lactobacillus crispatus, has a pronounced decrease in the undereye and crow’s feet zone and was undetectable within the wrinkle area of older skin. This finding has led BASF researchers to develop 2 technologies based on L. crispatus, isolated from human skin, to help support more youthful looking skin.

POSTBIOLIFT

Two cosmetic ingredients were developed from the same fermentation process: Probiolift®, the probiotic with dormant cells of living L. crispatus, and Postbiolift®, the fermentation supernatant containing the metabolites secreted by L. crispatus.

Unique postbiotic containing beneficial metabolites secreted by the “youth bacterium” Lactobacillus crispatus, a beneficial microorganism naturally occurring on young skin.
