Description
Pure Vitamin C is physically repelled by the hydrophobic barrier of the stratum corneum so there is a need to ensure efficient skin penetration and entry into epidermal cells. Another challenge is maintaining antioxidant activity. Steps must be taken to prevent Vitamin C from ionizing in solution, it is best to avoid extremes of pH and temperature, as well as minimizing the amount of dissolved oxygen and metal ions. Several Vitamin C derivatives, or chemically modified versions of Vitamin C, have been designed to maximize effectiveness and overcome barriers to penetration and stability. Take a look!
